The Brighton and Hove YOT is committed to working with young people, victims, employees, unions and other local organisations in a way which:

“values and celebrates the diversity of all people, irrespective of age, income, health, belief or ethnic origin. Brighton & Hove YOT will openly consult with others to find the best ways of ensuring that its services and employment practices are accessible”.

This means:

  • ensuring equalities are a priority in all policy and decision making
  • working with communities of interest and in partnership with the voluntary, private and statutory sectors to increase involvement in creating safer communities
  • ensuring all employees are trained to provide a fair, anti-discriminatory service
  • promoting an inclusive approach which emphasises anti-discriminatory practice by team members and systems to ensure that vulnerable children and families from across Brighton & Hove can access services satisfactorily
  • implementing fair employment and recruitment policies
  • providing a working environment in which employees have equal access to job and development opportunities
  • ensuring that selection for employment or development is made on merit alone
  • providing a working environment in which employees are able to work with dignity, free from harassment, bullying and victimisation

It is the responsibility of every employee to implement B & H YOT’s Equalities Policy at a level appropriate to their job and to carry out their duties, having regard to the Policy at all times. An employee who fails to act in accordance with the YOT’s Equalities Policy may be subject to disciplinary action.
